August Facelift

Coming from Vegas, I used to think of August as the month from Hell.

But in Denver, it's the perfect month to play. Yay for a new love of August!

Date night - my turn to pick a restaurant.  I went with Ethiopian.
a little dodgy, but memorable!? Afterward we went to the artwalk on Santa Fe. That was a hit. We found Sloan a classic desk and were tempted to buy some art. Maybe once we finally get some income!

Swimming at new Runway 35 with these lovely girls

Sloan took Ruth back to Sante Fe a couple days later to pick up the desk and walk her through some galleries. She soaked it up.

This was taken right before we had the crash of the night - our tube flipped mid-air and we all went flying, especially Brooklyn.  When we came up, 4 yr old Talie was hanging on to Ruthie's life jacket and Ruth & Brooklyn were balling.  Welcome to adventure sports girls!
Thanks Carslons for a super fun evening - we had a ball.

Free Saturday Golf Clinic

The clinic was for 5-12 year olds. I brought Reggie (not quite 4) just in case they'd let him play.  The coach said sure.  As long as he doesn't hurt anyone.

The first challenge was to putt the ball between the red lines and put a tee down where it went out of the lines.  The 3 older boys went first and their balls didn't go far before going out. Then Reggie went and hit it straight to the flag at the end.
The next 3 challenges he nailed too! The coach couldn't believe it. He started talking to me about getting him into lessons. I'm not a sports junkie, but can't deny I was buzzing.

But on our way to the driving range, they had an obstacle course for the kids to run through and Reggie missed the white balance beam... after the fun noodles, he raced right to the finish line.  When we told him to come back because he missed the balance beam, he had a melt down.  He laid flat out on the grass in front of everyone.  There went the 8 & 12 yr old's respect. The coach's response was, 'well, maybe we better wait a year.'

After 30 minutes of sulking, he decided to run back and get the course right. He did it over & over, careful not to miss the dang balance beam.

Ruth came alive once they started driving. She was the last to leave.

Swimming with the Robinsons

Reggie was taking swim lessons through the MCA, but wasn't quite swimming at the end of the 2 weeks. Jess taught her boys to swim early, and thought he'd catch on if she tried a couple ideas with him.  After 5 mins, he was swimming!
Thanks Jess!!

tough & tender Margaret

Last up, camping in Mueller State Park a couple hours south of Denver with 6 other families. We lucked out with perfect weather and a great group of kids!

The Robinsons

not to be confused with the Robisons

The downside of having a camper is not getting to camp right next to the tent campers.  And that's the only one :)  Woke up to omelets and toast.

Next up was the Cave of the Winds Tour

The caves have been running tours since 1881!  Only the rich were able to afford the tour back then, and they would come dressed in the Sunday best and crawl through caves for 6 hours.  Since then they've excavated pathways so they can get the masses through.  There were some impressive formations and rooms.  But the kids were pretty wild (Luke!).
