School in session & getting into the fall groove
Ruthie made some goals at school:
And Reggie was getting the hang of writing his name (his real name!)
I had been searching for a leather couch for our new living room since we moved in July, and hated the idea of paying $3000+ for a new one. But we were getting desperate, and the Crate & Barrel sale was coming to a close, so we were about to pull the trigger when...
one of my favorites at Crate & Barrel came up on Craigslist!! I called within minutes of it posting Friday night, and the lady said I could come look at it in the morning.
Saturday morning, Sloan to the van to work & I loaded up the kids and my pregnant belly in his truck. I was cautiously optimistic - the pictures on the listing were just ok.
But it was perfect!! And only $400! Muscle men to move it included!
The lady said she had a flood of calls after mine, so I was so lucky to have checked CL when I did. Blessings!
Glazed & confused to celebrate.
Luke guarding his donut
Crestmoor Park to play
here's the couch!
And after an expensive trip to Nick's, we made a little progress on the deck, too. We had a hard time deciding on what kind of tree to get... we wanted something that could live in a pot, grow tall & branch out, and cold-hardy. We chose Maple & took a serious chance with it likely not surviving the winter.
A little progress made in the piano room... wainscoting up, paint colors in the works
But the hunt for the perfect music room chandelier was still on. I loved this one at Rare Finds. But $400 seemed too expensive, and a little too small (to be continued...)
Saturday morning service project - planting bushes in our church's courtyard
this guy loves having a job to do!
Olive Garden with dad. We tend to eat out more when I'm very pregnant... last chances to go out before going to baby jail
Ruth's family tree project for school
showing her class
Sloan's staff threw us a very sweet baby shower
Then Luvy came to visit!!!
She & Ken had been gallivanting through Europe all summer and we were in serious withdraws! She was only home for 2 days before we flew her out for a much needed visit.
Help me Mom! Hard to resist getting design help when your mom is an interior designer and general contractor. She's always amazing, but especially when she's in her design element. She has a gift for visualizing, budgeting, working with contractors and being decisive. Plus, she is incredibly time-efficient and has fabulous taste.
Our main tasks: furniture, curtains, backsplash tile, and ...
the fireplace
We ripped out the sea green/turquoise glass tiles when we moved in because it wasn't our style. We thought we'd put new tile in, but then decided to get rid of all the cherry. We put the built in and mantel on Craigslist, and it sold right away.
I was wanting to do a pre-cast concrete mantle, so my mom found some local places for us to browse...

Above is a model of a limestone mantel. It was exactly what I was wanting! But $4000 :(
This is the concrete version for half the price. But Sloan didn't like how light it was. Hmm.
Meanwhile life goes on
Can't get too stressed with these goofballs around
Reggie was pretty excited about his new school clothes. He started getting more opinionated about his outfits. Then branched out on his own...
the blazer over the zipped-down sweater look!
Reggie was supposed to be in full-day kindergarten, but I requested to pull him out half-day until the baby came so we could have some time to transition. The principal personally approached me about this & tried to talk me out of it (he was the only kindergartner doing half-day). But I knew it was the best thing for him, and wish I had insisted on doing it all year.
We usually ate lunch, worked on math, and took a nap.
can't do this in kindergarten!
Luke's morning playdates with Bianca and Eddie
Out with Sloan to see his friend Breezy perform at Bluebird. He helped baptize her on his mission in Indianapolis.
Empire of the Sun -an Austrailian duo we've been following since our NZ days
quite a production!!
and Comfort Dental sent us to see Billy Joel - epic!
Reggie's first day of flag football practice
went pretty well!
Cafe Rio -Luke showing us his skills
are those salsa hips??
Here's Chippy. Luke found him in the ally behind our house, and Sloan decided to try and rescue him.
He was breathing, barely, so we got him a bowl of milk.
He was too weak to lap it up
So Sloan made him a teet
We were all pulling for poor little chippy!
But it was Sunday, and the animal rescue was closed, so we did what we could. He made it through the night, but on my drive downtown to the rescue the next morning, he passed on :(
This is Traverstone - a cheaper option than the precast (and darker, for Sloan's preference). But I wasn't loving the designs.
Or the sales lady. She was so uptight about the boys being boys -
how can you get mad at these rosy cheeks??
Luke's first time riding all the way to the rec center - yes!
and the start of Ruth's 3rd volleyball season
more hangin out with these two
Last dog pile on Dad before he takes off to Detroit to watch football with his high school/college buddies...
brave fans rockin the blue!
Quick shirt change after that game.
Like 20 years never passed
That afternoon, Sloan set up a tour with a guy he found on Yelp who will jump in the backseat of your car & give you the insider's look at Detroit.

I could've been home pouting, but instead we were out on the town-meeting David Bowie with Papa & Dodie!
and catching street shows - this hula hooper was amazing
double visit to the coin pot
Saturday morning was Reggie's first football game. Practice went well enough, so I wasn't worried, but I asked Papa to give him a little more conceptual prep to make sure he would be heading in the right direction
Started out strong
but the combat was real
he started 2nd guessing himself
and turned into a wet noodle
Papa managed to get him out on the field a couple more times. He did run the ball about 2 yards once as running back
which, even with the self-tackle, was beyond exhilarating.
On the way home, once we recovered, we rode the bikes through City Park
getting ready to pop!
After naps, we had mixed feelings on what to do that night. The majority wanted to go see Minions, which was only showing at a small theater in Westminster. We drove 25 minutes to get there, sat down for a quick Mexican dinner (which was shockingly delicious!), and found out Minions wasn't playing :( So plan B was to drive even further to see Inside Out. We were a little late, but loved every minute of that cute show.
Luke has a hard time saying goodbye :(
The day after Sloan got home, he loaded up the trailer & took us to Chatfield State Park in Highlands Ranch. It was rainy & chilly, but fun to explore another CO State Park, even if we didn't end up staying the night!
the fireplace remodel was still unresolved, but once I found this picture on Houzz, I had a new vision!
Reggie-Daddy date to the Aquarium
the end :)
