February, the love month. Ruthie was doing her homework in the car before we got in line for free frozen yogurt on National Yogurt Day and asked me to check it...

Reggie now likes anyone's balance bike but his
so Tristan was stuck in the stroller with Luke
Reggie is a man of few words, but when it comes to food, he gets pretty specific. On this morning he wanted a "shalocolit shake" and let me know "I like dat" once it was goin down. Thanks Reg.

Sunday evening, in the man cave
from Sloan (posted on Facebook)
Have been sequestered in the garage this evening; had to get away from the noise to study for a pathology midterm. After the passage of some time I looked over and noticed ruthie quietly drawing in her notebook on top of my work bench. I couldn't help but take a moment to appreciate her presence in my life. It's nice to occasionally get the sense that she feels content and taken care of; that our home is enough for her; that our attention and love are enough, and her heart seems at peace. Because those moments do come. And it's moving to momentarily give myself the liberty to conclude that some small part of her contentedness just might arise from being able to carry on an activity in an unlikely place, so long as it's in the proximity of dad.
Stay as long as you like Ruthie.
(you want to click 'like' again, don't you? :)
Luke with RSV :(
meanwhile the laundry piles up
and Reg keeps doin what he does... in his very own way
he has to 'sit down' while he's eating, so he decided to bring his 'table' to the middle of the kitchen: command central
Valentine's Day
The red balloon in the distance marks one of 6 stops along the V-day scavenger hunt we set up for Sloan. We were so giddy with excitement as we planted our roses with the balloons in our favorite spots in the desert around our house (where we always take the dogs, where Ruthie collects 'bullets', the top of the hill where they roll tires, the water tower, the road with the dips, etc).
By the time they got home, they were hungry and cranky, so it was hard to tell if it was a good idea. But the kids and I had fun setting it up anyway. Sloan hit a perfect 10 with the flowers though, they cheered me up all week.
And he topped things off with date night to the Oyster Bar.
He wasn't catching the vision with the whole raw oyster thing,
but I was!
yum!
for dessert - a flaming Bananas Foster
That was a fun date. We've been good about our weekly date night the last two years. Some weeks we're not in the mood, but we go anyway and surprise ourselves. Sometimes we start out in the mood, but find something depressing to talk about and it goes downhill. Even though it's a pain finding a sitter, expensive, and more work than just watching a movie at home, it's been worthwhile to get out together and rekindle the almighty Spark.
Ruthie drew this picture for Sloan because he started playing indoor soccer on a team with the parents from her soccer team, including my friend Teisha
The co-ed league plays Friday nights, Sloan's a puma!
With church starting at 8:30am this year, we have plenty of time Sunday afternoons. Feb 17th, we spent it at the temple.
