A Nice, Big Break

We were so happy when that last final was done.  Yay Sloan - finished his first year of dental school, way to go.

Since January, I've asked Sloan if I get to my goal weight if he'll treat me to a night in a hotel.  Well, I somehow managed to get there (a miracle!) and with my mom & Ken coming through town, Reg done with breast feeding, AND a fabulous coupon for Ravella at Lake Las Vegas, the stars had aligned for our 2nd honeymoon...

the coupon included $10 off dinner, free breakfast, gas money, and spa vouchers!

 Yay, happy memories

After our night of white-linen luxury, we hit the pavement

three week ROAD TRIP

Started in Utah, visiting Sloan's parents for a couple days,
then headed northwest through Idaho to Oregon

Ruthie always makes friends with the neighbors

After 3 days of driving and camping and a short tour through Portland, we made it to Honeyman, OR (on the coast near Eugene) to camp with Sloan's sister's family

I love this shot of Erin. She was the great organizer of the trip and kept us all engaged in interesting, heartfelt conversation and filled our tummies with delicious camp food

resemblance?

Poor, cold Hudson. We found a Goodwill nearby and got him a wool sweater so his jaw would stop chattering all night & day

we found this hat for cold Reg, too

There's a fresh water lake near the campsite that has sand dunes leading into it. So cool!  We were on a sandy beach with no waves, just a peaceful lake surrounded by evergreens

yay for cousins

On the way out of town we stopped in Eugene for Voo-Doo Donuts yum! and a great little hike around the Ducks football stadium, but no pictures :(

and back on the road again...

Hudson was a trooper

Ruthie entertaining herself in the back seat

And 7 hours later, we made it to Aja & Jonah's house in Sequim, Washington

Crabbing

Jonah was pinched by a killer crab. That's why we're getting the finger.

Jonah took the kids out berry picking

Ana's horse Coco

Poem with jugs of used vegetable oil for the Eyre's greasal cars

Reg & Mom

Ruthie and a poor, poor frog

bathtime

Dungeness Beach

Seaweed Wig - ewwww!

Reg in a bucket

the kids made a giant driftwood teeter-totter

The Lake!

scared Reg

curious Reg

the feeding frenzie

Ana impressed us all by dropping a ski for the first time!

the boy car (sloan in blue blockers)

Sheep Hearding 101

trickier than you would think! they were worthy opponents

but in the end...

Sloan had the fortunate job of cutting through the bum hole.

this look says it all

Ruthie was right into the action

Jonah showing us how the lungs fill up with air

now that's a naked sheep

the goods

if i'm cooking with meat, he now asks me to cut it up in very small pieces

from Sequim, we made the trek to Blakely Island

we were soooo lucky to have Ana come with us
she and ruthie shoulda been sisters

racing around the ferry decks

go reg go

after a 2-day trek (including 2 ferry rides, a night of camping on Orcas island, and a boat taxi), we made it!

Just in time for Reggie's birthday

happy #1 little man

congratulations from Papa

the birthday party

 cousin Earl, Papa, Nonie

plus dodie, aunt tammy

and the eyres

the cupcakes

the presents

I have to keep reigns on how fiercely I love this little guy. He's independent yet cuddly, loves a reason to laugh. Gives us forehead to forehead kisses and throws an arm up straight up in the air to say hi, esp to his dad.

ode to Reg:

dear Reg how you bring us delight
our gentle little dude, thanks for sleepin through the night
you like to work, to figure things out
but you don't like to get scared, you give a big pout
you're the handsomist little guy with eyes that make us melt
sweet curls on your big noggin are are softest we ever felt
we love you with hearts too soft, our precious little son
we want this day to last forever, the day you turn #1!

next day, the real Blakely fun begins...

Papa took the kids to "Frog Land" where hundreds of tadpoles had just turned to baby frogs. Gross to some (like me), hitting the jackpot for Ruthie

morning walks on the beach - tide pools

afternoons at the lake

Dodie got scared by a frog and jumped up, Reg was devastated...

clung to papa for a while :)

swimmin with dad

boat rides to the rope swing

hanging out at our old family house at blakely, cleaning up the mice poo while the kids played with play dough

sunset at the peak

aja and sloan

 camera shy ruthie

and our last night, aja took some shots of us on grandma's deck...

hudson and his favorite, and least favorite, trainers :)

after blakely, we drove throuh beautiful Washington to stay with my step-sister Savannah in Spokane. Then we crossed Montana to West Yellowstone to stay with Sloan's buddy Glen for a couple days. I LOVED Montana. Couldn't get enough of the huge expanse of rolling hills and ruggedness and frontier-ness of that state. Cant wait to go back someday

at the IMAX in West

on the way back to provo, we got to meet up with our good friends the Laws in a Target parking lot

and that's our trip! we were home just in time for school to start back up again. which was really depressing. but grateful we got so much time together and with family and friends making these memories. here goes another year!
